You have your dream dress — now it’s time to make sure it fits like it was made just for you. ✨

At Bisou Bridal London , we believe your fittings should feel just as relaxed and special as your dress shopping experience. We provide our brides with recommendations to seamstresses we know and trust. Once you've booked your first appointment, knowing the right questions to ask the seamstress will help you feel confident, comfortable, and fully wedding-day ready.

1. How Should My Dress Feel?

This might sound simple, but it’s so important! Don’t be afraid to ask your seamstress how your dress should feel on your body. Should it feel snug? How tight is too tight? Your gown should feel secure but never restrictive — you want to dance, hug, and twirl the night away.

2. What Alterations Do You Recommend?

Every bride and every gown are different. Ask your seamstress if she see any adjustments, aside from the usual ones, that could make your dress look or feel even better — maybe adding softer lining, removing beading that could catch under your arms, or moving an applique. You'll also want to discuss your bustle. There are almost any number of ways to bustle a wedding dress depending on how you want it to look or function. For instance, in addition to a train bustle you might want to discuss adding a bustle to the front hem if you want to change into flats.

3. What Undergarments Work Best?

This is a game-changer. The right undergarments can completely transform how your gown fits and looks. Talk to your seamstress about the best bra and/or shapewear for your specific dress style. And bring these items to every fitting so you see exactly how the final look will come together.

4. How Should I Care for My Dress Before the Wedding?

Once your final fitting is done, make sure you know exactly how to store and transport your gown safely. Should it hang or lay flat? Should you steam it or bring it back for a final press? Tips and tricks for traveling with your dress

From the moment you pick up your gown to your walk down the aisle, here’s our simple guide to storing, transporting, and steaming your gorgeous gown.

Storing at Home
When you buy a gown from Bisou Bridal, and most stores actually, your gown will come in a complimentary breathable garment bag. Once you're home, hang it somewhere cool, dry, out of direct sunlight, and away from cats! Kitties are curious beasties. If your dress is quite heavy or has delicate beading, lay it flat or drape it carefully to avoid stretching the fabric.

If you do take it out for a peak, use the inner satin loops, not the straps of the dress, to put it back on the hanger: this prevents stretching the straps or sleeves. Depending on the hanger style, you may want to wrap the loop a few times around the arm of the hanger so your gown is less likely to fall to the bottom of the garment bag.

Avoid storing your wedding dress in attics, basements, or anywhere damp — a spare closet works beautifully!

Getting It to Your Venue
When you pick it up from your seamstress, ask for tips for transporting your gown. Tulle, satin or brocade fabrics have different characteristics, for example tulle and lace are generally forgiving, while satin can be more delicate. On your wedding day, you’ll want your gown to be pristine. Lay it flat in the back seat of a car if you can, in its garment bag.

Traveling on a plane? Do not check your gown! Carry it with you in the garment bag. Some airlines will hang it in a closet for you: ask the airline attendant.

Steam For That Perfect Finish
Once you’re at your venue, take your dress out of its bag and hang it up right away so wrinkles can naturally fall out. For any creases, use a handheld steamer on a low setting — hold it a few inches away from the fabric and keep the steamer moving to avoid water spots. If you're unsure, ask your seamstress to show you. Or many venues will have steaming services. Ask your wedding planner or on-site contact.

This is your time to dream! Scroll Pinterest, flip through bridal magazines and save photos of gowns that capture your imagination. Do you see yourself in a romantic ballgown? A modern fit and flare? Or maybe a timeless vintage piece? Do you love lace or luscious satins? Sweetheart neckline or square? Or maybe you don’t know! And that’s ok too. We can help you find your style.

9–12 Months Before: Book Consultations

Do a little research, find 2-3 bridal boutiques that feel right for you. Book a few appointments to try on a selection of gowns. At Bisou Bridal London, you’ll have the entire boutique to yourself — no rush, no pressure, just you, your favourite people, and our curated collection.

6–9 Months Before: Say "Yes" to the Dress

We recommend ordering your dress at least 8–12 months before your wedding date. This timeframe gives your chosen designer time to create your gown and leaves room for any alterations or custom touches.

Now it’s time to make it fit like a dream. We have seamstresses we adore and will connect you with them. At your first fitting, they will begin to fine-tune every detail, from the hemline to the bodice, so your dress feels made just for you.

Before the big day, you’ll see your seamstress for your final fitting. Bring your wedding shoes and undergarments so every detail can be checked. Then your dress will be steamed and ready to let you shine.
