When Should I Start Shopping for My Dream Dress?

When to Start and What to Expect

Shopping for your wedding dress should be fun, inspired and relaxed — and at Bisou Bridal London, we can make that happen. ✨

12–18 Months Before: Find Your Inspiration

This is your time to dream! Scroll Pinterest, flip through bridal magazines and save photos of gowns that capture your imagination. Do you see yourself in a romantic ballgown? A modern fit and flare? Or maybe a timeless vintage piece? Do you love lace or luscious satins? Sweetheart neckline or square? Or maybe you don’t know!  And that’s ok too. We can help you find your style.

9–12 Months Before: Book Consultations

Do a little research, find 2-3 bridal boutiques that feel right for you. Book a few appointments to try on a selection of gowns. At Bisou Bridal London, you’ll have the entire boutique to yourself — no rush, no pressure, just you, your favourite people, and our curated collection.

6–9 Months Before: Say "Yes" to the Dress

We recommend ordering your dress at least 8–12 months before your wedding date. This timeframe gives your chosen designer time to create your gown and leaves room for any alterations or custom touches.

From quality Canadian designers like Lis Simon and Astrid & Mercedes by Lea-Ann Belter to exclusive Australian private label styles — or a vintage couture piece — you’ll have plenty to choose from at our boutique.

3-4 Months Before: Your First Fitting & Accessorize

Your beautiful gown has arrived! We’ll be in touch to book a time for you to come into the boutique to try it on and fall in love with it all over again. This is also the perfect time to add finishing touches — a handcrafted Laura Jayne veil, vintage gloves, or a one-of-a-kind hairpiece from our collection. Check out our Veil Lengths 101 TikTok for veil inspiration!

Now it’s time to make it fit like a dream. We have seamstresses we adore and will connect you with them. At your first fitting, they will begin to fine-tune every detail, from the hemline to the bodice, so your dress feels made just for you.

3-4 Weeks Before: Final Fitting

Before the big day, you’ll see your seamstress for your final fitting. Bring your wedding shoes and undergarments so every detail can be checked. Then your dress will be steamed and ready to let you shine.

Quick tips from Kate

  • Invite people you trust and love — you’ll want honest but supportive opinions…those who will listen to you.
  • When planning your day to try on dresses, avoid self-tanners (they can stain the dresses), you're welcome to wear makeup and style your hair, and wear nude undergarments.
  • Have an open mind — so many brides surprise themselves with what they fall in love with! Plus, we love to pull a dress that is a bit of a wild card: it keeps things fun, light, and maybe, just maybe, it’s the one.
  • Don’t stress — take your time and enjoy every moment. We’re here for you, every step of the way.
  • And finally, plan lunch or a little pit stop during the day to reflect and chat about dresses you tried on.
